Southern Patagonia

Torres Del Paine/Tierra del Fuego/Navarino Island/Beagle Channel
Generally speaking, this area runs from the Southern Patagonia Ice field south to and including the islands of Tierra del Fuego and Navarino. It is a land of golden colored wind-swept pampas, striking granite peaks of the Torres and Fitz Roy mountains, sturdy Gauchos on their Criollo horses, kayaking among icebergs fallen from impressive Glaciers and epic exploring opportunities.
Best known is the beautiful and dramatic Torres del Paine National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site and a Mecca for outdoor activities. This park is naturally diverse, and offers many excursions so that all can enjoy its variety of landscapes and ecosystem: like hiking the famous “W”, snapping a photo to admire an impressive landscape, or galloping on sturdy horses under the watch of towering peaks. Discover its unique world of beauty; wildflowers, native birds, and exotic animals like the doe-eyed Guanaco (cousin of the llama), swift running ñandú and the now thriving Andean deer (huemul).
Bernardo O´Higgins National Park, known for its many canals and fiords, is one of the largest wild land reserves in the region. Famous for it’s the majestic landscapes that the Serrano y Balmaceda glaciers offer, it is the most extensive national park in Chile, covering more than 3.5 million hectares. The Park is home to one of the largest reserves of fresh water in the world—the Southern Patagonian Ice field, a remnant of the glacial era—formed over 3.5 million years ago.
The gateway towns of
Punta Arenas and Puerto Natales offer modern amenities and accommodations to explore the area. Cross into Argentina to El Calafate, home of the famous Perito Moreno Glacier and a few hours drive to the unrivaled peaks of Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre, who reign above the base town of El Chalten, another paradise for hikers and glacier seekers.
From Punta Arenas, crossing the historic straight of Magellan you reach the Island of Tierra del Fuego (Fire Island). On the Chilean side moving from Porvenir south, this practically unexplored area ranges from vast pampas to native forests. Several lakes and rivers are prime for trout fishing. Chile's southern most town of Puerto Williams on the Island of Navarino is a tiny dot on the map and sits on the Beagle Channel. Its the step off for the southern most trek in the world, a once in a life time adventure exploring pristine and lightly travelled paths, navigating wild weather that can only be found at the end of the earth.
On the Argentinean side of Tierra del Fuego and Beagle Channel is the more cosmopolitan town of Ushuaia. Besides being an excellent area to explore in the summer by foot or water, it is also well know ski destination in winter. This port town is a base for those departing or arriving from cruises to the Antarctic or flights to El Calafate or Buenos Aires in Argentina or Punta Arenas and Santiago in Chile.
