Then we will ascend (300M) for one hour through a surreal Japanese garden landscape, crossing beech forests, to reach the French valley viewpoint gifting us with a magnificent view of both mountains and lakes. We will lunch here with good possibilities of seeing avalanches from the hanging glacier or simply observe the west side of the Cuernos (2600M), Espada (2400M) and Fortaleza (2800M). The schedules indicated above are subject to change due to weather conditions or unexpected circumstances beyond our control, but we will try our best to keep them unaltered

Weather Conditions:
Chilean Patagonia is famous for its unpredictable weather. Because of the possibility of experiencing all four seasons in one day, it is important to be prepared for anything. In winter the temperature is typically between -10ºC and 10ºC, but this is a dry cold. There is also a high probability of stable weather between May and October.

Mountain Lodge (Refugio) Paine Grande

All mountain lodges used by us for our trips are located in strategic places in the park and with fantastic views. There are 6 beds to each room (bunk-bed style) and have shared bathrooms with hot water.

Paine Grande is a large and modern refugio set on the banks of the Lake Pehoe, including internet connection and full service bar. It’s the jump off point for the catamaran crossing Lake Pehoe and the walks to the French and Grey Valleys part of the "W" and "Circuit" hikes.

Tyndall Cabins

Centrally located at the shore of the Serrano river and at the Torres del Paine park border, it affords guests an amazing view of the Paine Mountain Range. The cabins have 2 rooms, one of them with either twin or matrimonial beds with private bathroom, the other with twin beds with shared bathroom. The weather in Patagonia in an important factor that must b e taken into account. The maximum temperature in summer is 20 C° and it drops to below 0° in winter. The windchill factor sometimes makes the ambient temperature drop 6 or 7 degrees. The temperature of the water is normally between 4 and 5 degrees Celsius.

Winter W Trek in August
Chile Nativo was top notch: highly organised and very professional. Everyone we dealt with was absolutely first rate. Also we had to change our dates by one day because of a strike in Argentina that cancelled our flight to El Calafate. They rearranged everything for us and figured out bus schedules etc (non-trivial because there was not a direct bus from Calafate to Natales on the day that we needed one under the new schedule)

The 5 day Winter W Trek itinerary was perfect. We wanted good long hikes and beautiful Patagonian scenery, and that is exactly what we got. Our Guides were fantastic. While in retrospect could have easily done the W trek unguided I found a lot of value in having Mauricio as a guide. 1) He was very knowledgeable about the area. 2) He knew how to time our hikes so that we were sure to get to our destinations (and got us all the way to the British Lookout in French Valley–substantially further than the plan in the itinerary). 3) Choosing hikes based on the weather to maximize views, etc. 4) Excellent knowledge of flora and fauna. 5) Great sense of humor. 6) Not having to cook was quite a luxury.

The winter experience
Although we were initially in a bit of sticker-shock from general Patagonia organized trek costs, we were very happy with the value that our Chile Nativo trek ended up having. Everything from the itinerary to the food to the transportation was well-organized and comfortable, and we were able to have a nice balance of a rugged trekking experience with certain little luxuries that made the trip more relaxing and enjoyable. One of the nice things about the itinerary during our trek was its flexibility- obviously a lot of what we did depended on the weather and other external factors, but our guide made sure to check in with us about what we wanted to do and what we were feeling up to as the trek continued.

Our guide, Mauricio, was amazing. Not only was he very knowledgable, experienced and attentive as a guide, but he was also just lots of fun to hang out with and easy to spend 5 days with. Because our trek was only 3 people including the guide, we were curious how that dynamic would go...but it was always comfortable, fun and easy-going. Mauricio also did a great job of showing us the sights, critters, and unseen spots in the winter, and he always challenged us to go a bit further. It was always worth it!

Booking our trek with Chile Nativo was easy, worth the price, and helpful to first time Patagonia visitors. Being able to trek Patagonia in the winter with Chile Nativo was a big plus as well, and it led to a lot of unique and amazing experiences. Our very first day of full trekking was a clear, cold, and sunny day, and we decided to head up the French Valley. Thanks to Mauricio's knowledge and experience, we were able to put in a full day of hiking and make it all the way up to the Britanico viewpoint. The snow seemed pretty untouched and it seemed like we were the only ones who had made it up there this winter, and without any other people around, it was very surreal and beautiful. An exhausting but amazing day that was very, very worth the hard work!

Honeymoon in Winter
A trip of a lifetime -- with huge thanks to Gonzalo, Rebecca, and Pato! We enjoyed all the food -- trail mix, soups, coffee with Bailey's, avocado, home-baked bread, and smoked salmon. We liked Gonzalo's suggestions for our challenging trekking routes; he was also looking out to make sure our activities were safe given daylight and weather conditions. We really appreciated the 'extras', such as the maps we received, the trekking poles he brought for us, the drop-in visit to Explora, the visit to the Chile Nativo office in Puerto Natales, and the Chile Nativo DVD! Pato was a great driver and we are glad that he was able to join us for some of our hikes.

Gonzalo was a fantastic guide -- very energetic, knowledgeable, and his passion for Patagonia was evident throughout our entire tour! We also appreciated that he contacted us on the day we arrived from Punta Arenas.
Your care and thoughtfulness in designing an itinerary that maximized our experience in Torres del Paine was the reason we decided to choose Chile Nativo. After a fantastic tour, you have proven to us that you were the best choice!

We did compare the cost of a winter trek with some other operators; Chile Nativo was more expensive but we knew that we were paying more for a better experience with you, so in the end, your price was very reasonable. After our trip, we are certain that the little extra that we spent for Chile Nativo was totally worth it! We would recommend you to all of our friends and will be posting positive comments on some websites such as TripAdvisor, etc.
